Motion Control Particles (e-motion software)
-
The guys are Delicode are aware. Ni-Mate V2 is currently with a bunch of beta testers.
I can't comment on Z-Vector though. -
Havent updated to Yosemite, because of this. A lot of software I use Isnt approved for Yosemite
-
Fortunately Apple have been ramping up their patent portfolio in the area of devices suspiciously like Kinect and Leap in recent months so with a bit of luck we'll have a native solution before long.

I wouldn't be quite so irked by it all if Delicode's site mentioned their compatibility issues, but they simply state 'supports Mac OSX' at '10.7+'. Nowhere do they publically mention Yosemite isn't supported. Re: NI-Mate - several conversations with DC about it a while ago. Even gave them the single-line change in their source code which would resolve the problems. Was told it would be addressed in a future update. Would be interested to know if any of the testers can get tilt up and tilt down working in NIMate v2 beta with v1 Kinects (xbox360 14wotsit version), or whether they've focused solely on adding support for new Kinects (?)

Funny enough I am having a look at it now. -
Graham is that Windows?
-
I'd say so... can't test a Kinect v2 on anything else can you at the moment??
-
@feinsinn - yes. And so far so good works on my old kinect sensor but I can't tilt the sensor via the software.
Mac Version coming soon for beta testing. -
@particlep -- where did you download 0.7.6? Their website has only 0.7.1 available...typo? or you got other connects???@particlep and @feinsinn, Got a solution for the render window issue...I've also emailed the creators with no response BUT I just figured out how to re-enable the render window (still not sure why all of the sudden the particles were not visible...) ..under "debug", uncheck "useFBO", and voila!! ..do you know what "useFBO" or any other "debug" functions mean??? all I know is it means this works BUT makes syphon recorder a white box :( -
Thanks everyone for this discussion of eMotion. Especially to @particlep for your tutorial videos. I'm new to the program. I'm a musician who plays Tuned Glass. I'll be using eMotion with the Leap Motion to capture my hand data and create visual effects during live performance. Any of you have answers to these questions? 1. Is there a way to to save settings in the Current Tool Options? Every time the program closes or crashes I have to rebuild my preferred tool parameters from the default parameters. The same thing happens with window configuration preferences. 2. Actions or scripts that "clear the current layer" frequently crash eMotion. With a 99,999 particle limit, it needs to be cleared frequently. Have any of you solved this problem? A "fade out and reset" script was suggested above. 3. Though Leap Motion is set to operate with programs running in the background, eMotion seems to lose communication with the Leap Motion if eMotion is running in the background. Any solutions? 4. I have eMotion version 0.7.7 Is there a Mac OS version that this version of eMotion is optimized for? I am using a Macbook Pro Mavericks, 10.9.5 And my Leap Motion is updated to the latest version.
-
Brief update per my inquiry above:
The "fade out and reset" script is a great way to avoid crashes when clearing a layer.Has anyone figured out how to get the Leap Motion controller and eMotion to communicate with each other when a different app (in my case, Ableton) is in focus? Anytime an app other than eMotion is in focus eMotion stops communicating with Leap Motion. Checking "Allow background apps" in the Leap Motion settings does not remedy the problem. -
e motion is working again for me.
since january the render window had been white and not usable. i've had time out from e motion.using the download link featured in a post from january, i downloaded the latest version and all is now good.once again i can return to my experiemntation. -
Same here, had a break because it wasnt working. Now it seems working again...

Hi all,
sorry for "resuscitate" this old discussion... :)does anybody know how to make the same thing as eMotion Grid with motion brushes deformation using Quartz Composer?I've been going through eMotion with no great satisfaction, since like most of you have said, it crashes very often and I would prefer to test a more stable platform. Is there any QC patch to download where to understand how to deform a surface (mesh or parametric grid)?we're using MacOS with QC and Tryplex plugins. Thanks for your help!L -
Good question about QC or FFGL for the grid with motion brushes. Would be also interested in that.

Hey everyone, long time reader, first time poster.
I'm trying to figure out how to get OSC data into eMotion as well. From my reading here, it seems that no one has been able to get the motion brush (x,y) path via OSC. I was wondering what kind of software alternatives to eMotion that you may of explored?@particlep Thanks for making the videos on eMotion, by the way.I'm working on a Python Application that tracks human forms with the goal of allowing people to interact virtual environments in real time, specifically for dancers and choreographers. -
information:
One man work, successful artist... Thank God Mark's view is better !
-
What a thoroughly charmless way to draw a project to an end.
+1 Armando.I wonder if Mark has something similar up his sleeve for a future Izzy? -
See my post towards end of this thread: [Basic Physics Engine - Stage Edge Collision, with rebound / Gravity and Friction](http://troikatronix.com/troikatronixforum/discussion/2292/basic-physics-engine-stage-edge-collision-with-rebound-gravity-and-friction#latest)There's a Processing patch in there for use with Kinect that replicates _some_ of the eMotion functionality. The rest could be added at some point.
