Re: [Usb-c on MacBook Pro 2017. How many video output?](/topic/3387/usb-c-on-macbook-pro-2017-how-many-video-output)

I am looking at upgrading my 2013 MacBook Pro to the new version, a 15" with maxed-out CPU, AMD 560 card...

My two questions are - how to get maximum HDMI outputs and also using the USB edition, what level of dongle hell do I invoke?

My USB key is USB-A shaped, for one thing - I will need to figure out how to get that connecting without some kind of DRM rejecting it through a hub or dongle.

Also needing to power through one of those USB-C ports.

I can imagine using these to get the best results:

      1 x Sanho HyperDrive Duo USB-C Hub for 13" and 15" MacBook Pro 2016/2017

      https://www.bhphotovideo.com/b...

      (or a better brand?)

This would allow pass-through power and plugging in the USB key, plus one HDMI output and leave a USB-C available on that side.

Then I could add up to three of these.  Looks like good resolution... I seem to see a lot of people branding that same box though:

3 x OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dual HDMI Adapter

      https://eshop.macsales.com/ite...

      Interface (chipset) Maximum Resolution

      • (1) Thunderbolt 3 (Alpine Ridge JHL6540)
      • (2) HDMI 2.0 (Parade PS176)
      • (2) 3840 x 2160 @ 60hz

So - $500 CDN approx to get all those cables happening ( US $400) for 7 HDMI displays?  Can't imagine the GPU could handle that...

For my current show I could get away with only one of the OWC adapters.

Just read the Q&A on the Sanho device, and the second USB-C port on the dock is data only, meaning you can't get video out of it.  That's too bad because the device blocks / uses the second Thunderbolt port on the Macbook without passing video through it (which the onboard port is capable of doing).

OK so the reviews on the Sanho suck - haha - mostly disconnect issues.  Brrrr!

          But this one seems better:
