      @Fred @bonemap  Re: [Thumbnail not black](/topic/2914/thumbnail-not-black)

      I'd also find it useful if Izzy could let you select a thumbnail for video files listed in the video bin and bin picker, either by using each movie's poster frame or defining how far into the video

      OSX forces the poster frame to be 10 seconds into the video and if it's less than 10 seconds seems to pick it 50% through

      I tried changing the poster frame using the following technique but Izzy 3.0.7 still displays a black frame in the video bin and bin picker, so am assuming Izzy is using the first frame and not the poster frame as the thumbnail

      Open the movie in QT and navigate to the desired thumbnail image (or poster frame)
      Copy (command C)
      In Finder, Get info on the movie. At the top of the pop-up window, upper left, is a small QT image. Click on it, then command-V (paste)

        I am pretty sure the technique you describe sets the icon for an item in the Finder. It is not movie related. You could paste any image into the Get Info window of any Finder item and change its icon.

        As mentioned in this Adobe Premiere article, Apple's "modern" system for playing video abandoned poster frames, which you could set in the older QuickTime. I wasn't aware of this 10 seconds thing... is that how the Finder handles it?

        All of that said, we will consider your feature request.

        We've have to think about how the user interface for that would work. Would you expect to enter timecode? What if the movie has been edited the next time you open the Isadora file, and the timecode you entered doesn't exist? Maybe you could tell me about your expectations.

        Best Wishes,

          Thanks Mark for querying expectations...

          - ideal would be set the poster frame externally from Izzy and use that as the thumbnail (but perhaps no longer a possible option)

          - so default would be as it currently is use the first frame

          - but with the option of being able to select the relevant video within the video bin and bin picker and then ideally scrub through it until you get to the frame you like and select that as the thumbnail

          - and if the movie had been edited the next time you open it then to use the first frame again (the default) or alternatively an image that says "update thumbnail" if that's more intuitive

            A number of systems (youtube included) simple give you a predefined selection of thumbnails to pic from.
            So perhaps a default of position 0% as it is, but with the option of changing a thumbnail to use 10% 25% 50% or 75% as alternative thumbnails.
