Screen Poems
-
...and here's another installation I have currently at Maison de la Culture Maisonneuve in Montreal. It seems many organisations are looking for works that can engage audiences from the windows, without bringing them into teh space.
POÈME D'ÉCRAN (Screen Poem) is set across 5 screens, with each displaying a single letter from a word. The word changes every 5 seconds to build a poem. Those poems are contributed by passers by.http://portfolio.smeech.co.uk/poemedecran
Like 'La Lune Est', the text contributions are read from a .txt file, held in a dropbox, updated via a google form or Twitter hashtag linked to an applet on IFTTT.com
The generative feedback patterns around each letter onscreen are created using the Get Stage Image actor (i'm using v3.0.7 for this) and running it through a threshold actor. I love the colours I chose, and I really like how the echoes of each character remain. There is some additional agitation from a webcam but this seems less successful (it was my attempt to bring the audience directlyb into the work but I'll probably remove it for future iterations )
The installation runs off 3 mac minis (I could have done 6 screens, but we only had 5 tvs). Anyway - let me know what you think! -
