MOTU Ultra Mk3 not being recognized in View/Audio
-
Hello All - I'm working with my new M1 Max MBP and today I tried to play 4 sound files directed into 4 speakers. In Isadora (latest v.) the MOTU is only recognized as a 2-chl device. If I use Logic, or Max I get multichannel output. I have set the Audio/MIDI correctly I think. This used to work fine on my older computer - so I don't know if SoundPlayer, Isadora or me is wanky. I have the latest MOTU driver for the interface fwiw.
Thanks for any advice, John

Hi there John,
Which mode did you set your Audio device on in the bottom audio channel window? Go to View > Audio (CTRL + ALT + A on Windows)

@juriaan Thanks for the quick reply! I did open the bottom panel and it has both MOTU and system default as possibilities. I tried both and still the MOTU only shows 2 channels. If I add more outputs, the device turns yellow and tells me it is only capable of 2 channels. That's the problem I'm trying to solve. - John

Try clicking the Cog button in the bottom left (beside the speaker icon) when the Audio panel is open. This opens the Audio Devices panel in macOS, there you may be able to switch the configuration of your Motu. For me, the default of my Roland device is 2x2, but I have another option I can check which gives me 2x4 (2 in, 4 outs). Once I change this setting in the Audio Devices panel, I can then change the number of channels in Isadora via the channel number pulldown.
Please take a look at those settings and let me know if you are able to get the correct configuration. (ps: I am testing on a M1 mac mini running the latest OS) -
@dusx - Well you are one of the best gurus, but alas, I tried that. The MOTU is seen as its normal 14 in, 14 out device in Audio/MIDI. It works fine for multichannel in Logic (latest ver) Max can see the different outputs, but doesn't seem to allow routing and Isadora just says its a 2 chl device. Tried all the standard restart, shutdown and glare at it routines. Nothing changes. Tomorrow I will take my intel MBP back into the studio and see it the MOTU works as it has with that computer. I have used that older computer with the MOTU for multichannel sound through Isadora for years without even thinking much about it.
