Error = 42 Hap Playback
-
Hi all, hoping that someone can help me shed some light on why I am having issues here. I am creating content using Davinci Resolve and rendering direct to HAP and HapAlpha using the Voukoder plugin. I'm running into an issue where the files will play in a windows version of Isadora, but not in a Mac version. Here's what I've done/learned in case its helpful:
- I've re-rendered the video, tried different videos, different output settings in Resolve/Voukoder.
- I've tried reinstalling Isadora on the mac.
- I've tried installing a few different HAP codecs on the mac, although my understanding was that Isadora should have installed the HAP codecs already.
- The video plays both in Isadora and in VLC/Windows Media Player/Every other video software I have on my windows PC.
- The video plays in VLC on the same mac I am having issues with. It will not play in Quicktime on the same Mac.
- I've rendered an MP4 of the same content, which played successfully on Isadora/VLC for both Mac and Windows, and re-encoded it with AVF Batch Converter to HAP. The re-encoded video played in VLC on the mac but not in Isadora.
- When I try to add the video into an Isadora scene, it throws an error popup "Error = 42" with a long message saying it could be a missing codec, file link, etc. I can post a screenshot of the whole message if that's helpful.
The Windows pc is running Windows 10. The mac is running Monterey 12.6. Isadora is at version 3.2.5.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I've reached the end of what googling and trying things can get me.

I work in Resolve as well, so I will give your workflow a try and report back.

I do not have Resolve studio, so I had to connect Voukoder to Vegas Pro. What I have found is that the AVI wrapper raises the error that you noted, while using an Mov wapper works on both systems ( I tested on a M1 Mac running the latest macOS beta).
If you go to the 'Output' section of the Voukoder dialogue, and change the Container from AVI to MOV, you should be able to create cross-platform HAP videos using Voukoder.
I am investigating why some AVI Hap files raise this Error = 42, while other AVI Hap files do not.
A similar issue while converting photo-jpeg videos using Shutter Encoder was helped by using a setting to maintain metadata, which changed the writing application seen with Media Info from Lavf59... to Quicktime. Voukoder doesn't appear to have an equivalent setting. The MOV wrapper is more reliable at this time for cross-platform development since different encoders seem to produce AVI files with different attributes.

Thank you!! Just tested and it worked with HAP in a .MOV wrapper. Will test with HapAlpha as well. I swear I tried this solution, but I tried so many different combinations that at this point who knows.
Thank you so much for your help!
EDIT: For anyone coming here from a future search, I did indeed test with HapAlpha and it worked as well.
