[ANSWERED] Leapmotion on m1
-
Hello,
has anyone tried to use the Leapmotion on an m1 ? I can't do it even in Rosetta mode..... It looks like Leamotion software itself can't run. Although people at Leap told me that it runs.... A mistery
cheers

I have also tried without success. On their website you find this information:
it is a pity

Leap has changed drivers and support substantially since the Leap Motion Watcher was first added.
It is likely the drivers required have not been updated to work with the M1.
see: https://support.troikatronix.c... -
I got this answer from the support:
We have been able to test our V2 hand tracking software on recent Apple hardware and OS and whilst our V2 does still work with the Apple M1 chip on macOS Big Sur and previous releases unfortunately this is not able to work straight away with macOS Monterey. However, the our developer community has been hard at work and recently posted a way of getting the V2 hand tracking software to work on MacOS Monterey, see here for more details about this. Please be aware that it does require a reboot of the Mac. We have tested this on MacOS Ventura, and unfortunately this does not work and the hand tracking software is unable to detect the Leap Motion Controller.
As a Mac user myself I completely understand the frustration that this has caused. Although I am limited on the information that I can give you, I would like to reassure you that we have not forgotten Mac users and have plans to bring this to multiple platforms on our product roadmap including macOS in the future.
Best regards,
Jean-François

Update : I just installed the latest ultraleap driver and I am happy to report that the Ultraleap Hand tracking app even recognizes my old leap motion. I installed the latest Leap motion actor in isadora and set izzy on Rosetta as written in the actors page of the add-ons. But Isadora doesn't seem to receive the data. If I don't open Isadora under Rosetta when i try to put the Leap motion actor Isadora crashes.
So, for the moment the only option seems to be buying GECO that takes the hand tracking data and transforms into OSC -
I copied this from the other LeapMotion thread so that it will be shared here too.
For a long time, the only SDK that worked for macOS was v2.3.1, you should be able to download from Ultraleap's website. Unfortunately, when I click the link, I get an error and the SDK is not downloaded.
It is only recently that they introduced a new SDK (v5?) that works for macOS. But to make use of this, I must change the Leap Motion Watcher plugin to work with this new SDK and recompile it, because the new SDK is totally incompatible with the old one. Unfortunately doing so has not been at the top of the priority list because this plugin is for a specific piece of hardware that is not frequently used by most Isadora users.
So, for now, to work with the Leap Motion Watcher you must install the v2.3.1 SDK, which is compiled for Intel computers only. If your need is urgent, you may want to see if you can borrow or rent an Intel-based Apple computer.
I may have a copy of the v2.3.1 SDK on a backup, but I will not be able to access those backups until Friday Dec 15th, 2023. If I can find that SDK, you should be able to follow these steps to run the existing Leap Motion Watcher.
- Install the LeapMotion v2.3.1 SDK
- If you are running on an M1 computer, ensure Isadora is set to run in Rosetta (intel compatibility) mode.
- Connect your Leap Motion hardware
- Open Isadora
- Use the Leap Motion Watcher plugin.
I will let you know if I can find the v2.3.1 SDK for macOS, and I will also test this setup on my M1 to prove that it works. (I am sure I tested this configuration before, and it did work for me.)
Thanks for your patience.
Sincerely, Mark

@mark Thanks Mark.
It is not urgent at all for me. No production in sight. I was simply happy that Gemini works on M1 and my Leapmotion (old model) worked right away with what looks like a rock solid tracking. The solution for the moment seems GECO. But since I don't have a production I'll wait to have a native Izzy actor when you get a chance. No hurry for me.
Thanks again
