Projector for a large projection mapping

Hello Izzy community.

Our school is purchasing a projector for large ( I mean large) building projection mapping, I wonder you give us any suggestion on the best possible option.

Hi, there are a lot of parameters that go into a decision like this, how big? what kind of throw? what kind of space and surface? Well worth discussing here.

But here is my 2ç on where to get them. I would suggest talking to ReBeam in Berlin. They refurbish and upcycle large projectors and sell them with full warranty, a great company with a philosophy.

Go for laser for longevity, you cannot go wrong with something like the Panasonic PT-RZ21K

Also fun and a bit more affordable with a good lens range is the Epson EB-L1755U (the EU version of the L1750UNL)

If you want even bigger, talk to Rebeam, they are super helpful.

Hi,

I believe it is a good idea to purchase 2 or 3 matching projectors. In my practice the flexibility of accessing more than one projection surface enhances the possible experience I can produce. It allows blended projection around corners and the possibility to stack the projectors if needed. For example, I often produce projection for a precinct, that involves facade and environmental projection on a number of structures or surfaces simultaneously. And often create blended projections with two or more for gallery and theatres. I use the 15k Epson machine that @fubbi has indicated as one is owned by the local council. But last year I purchased 2 x 10k Epson projectors with the idea of having the flexibility that allows. I already have 3x 8k Epson machines and the big decider is around access to lenses. I have standard and short throw lenses for Epson, due to the cost of these lenses I am a bit locked in to using the Epson machines. One suggestion might be to find out what kind of projector lenses are accessible in your local community - through film clubs/councils/schools/universities or commercial access hire companies. It can save a lot of pain and production to have the possibility to borrow or hire lenses for your projectors. Last year I ordered two lenses from Epson - and waited 4 months for them to arrive- two weeks after the event they were proposed for.

By the way I am based in China, hence, we are spoil for choice when it comes to equipment, though quality is what we are definitely looking for.

I am sharing a couple of images of the buildings in question. I don't have the exact dimensions, I am still trying to figure out where to get those details.
