Shatter actor?

Does anyone know if there is a "shatter" effect equivalent (like shatter in after effects). I know there is explode, but I'm looking for a more glass shatter effects rather than a bunch of squares.

Without knowing anything about After Effects, would a GLSL shader be a possible path for you?
