Actually using Vegas Movie Studio (consumer/lower cost version)

I like it because it supports Many codecs, and doesn't limit the shape of the media (any non standard dimensions, eg 10px tall x 1280px wide) Its seems all encoders that use QT engine for encoding fail to provide Directshow AVI codecs (eg: Batch from Livid) Other rather powerful encoders like MediaCoder x64 and MPEG_Streamclip also don't seem to offer this Hap avi codec. I have had success with Virtual Dub. http://virtualdub.org/ It requires additional plugins to be installed if you want to open Quicktime video files, but supports most Windows formats by default. This will likely be the Free option that I recommend.

Not as a media type specifically, but you can easily load a sequence into a media folder, and play thru them as you like.

The easiest way is to play the movie on stage, put "blend" to "transparency" and set "layer" to a number higher to any other projector on stage. And voilà, sample here Jacques

The video codec may have a big impact. H264 for example won't like speed changes. Prores or hap are probably best. Also, adding a MultiBlocker before the speed input might help. Start with a time of 1/30 And try 1/15 These should allow a value per frame or per 2 frames.. not sure what will perform best, but these are my starting points for testing.

Ok. Data array. I'm starting on it. Video mapping/blending I will do some tests and see what comes of it. @Fred I would love to see some project pics.. pm me if you can share some.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\FreeFrame Resolume has them in  C:\Program Files (x86)\Resolume Arena 5.1.1\plugins\vfx

thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it! @fubbi, I will check it out, this was exactly what I wanted to do and the thing is that I'm very new to processing and have very little time ahead of me to make this work. I've had the amazing contribution of DusX with his cool little app, he also played with the contrast internally so that you can get more detail.  I still intuitively feel with my little experience that minimising the scan distance will help the kinect get the right information. Worst case scenario, we're even considering having her move on a rotating stool, so that she's a bit detached from the floor. Will let you know how this is developing. It's been quite a saga.  But with all you guys helping out, it feels like a solution is close! Thanks

Yes 100% An SSD's will help massively.

When you are mixing you are mixing 2 HD videos together and that's a lot of pixels! 

The edge blend in the stage setup works well (I think the actors are a legacy system- it has been talked about that there is a whole new version of the stage setup on the way), it needs a few more helpers (like at least a line at the blend boundaries for aligning, but otherwise it is there and works well, and together (again a few interface details) with the stage key stoning it allows for pretty much any scenario.

I feel like this stuff should stay as is  for functionality and the mapper is more for feeding content to stages. How would an edge blend on a mapper work, on all quads that go over a boundary or on selected quads per boundary?). I would love that the stage setup is aware of its own key stoning and blending instead, that izzy could then deduce the biggest rectangle it can fit across blended stages (lets say 3 physical projectors) and then amalgamate these into a new single stage (it knows how much overlap there is), then once the stage setup is done no more chopping and adjusting for overlap, just send everyhing to the new stage. This is a feature of serveral other well known systems.

you could trigger different values to the Speed input of the Movie Player. 0 will pause, 1 will play. use a Trigger Value for instant changes or an Envelope Generator to ramp up and down.

if you want each section of the movie to pause automatically (when a text message appears) there are ways to set up the stop trigger. if each section is the same length then a simple Trigger Delay could send the 0 speed trigger. if each section is different then you could use a series of Comparators being fed from the Position output of the Movie Player that each trigger a zero speed at the right point in the movie (use [Greater Than] setting for each trigger) i hope this helps, john
