Isadora Native v002 Rutt-Etra Effect
-
@mark I understand the 3 requires 64 bit architecture, while the plugin linked above in this thread is 32 bit. I have downloaded the source code for the plugin from github, in order to try to compile its 64 bit version, but the repo is missing some dependencies, like IsadoraLib.a.
Is there any info on this plugin vis-a-vis Isadora 3?

Coming soon!

@wolandYay! I miss it.

RE- RUTT for isador 3.. its missing the smooth paramater like the old version had.. which was essential to me.. it smooths off the sharp edges of the z extrude.. is it possible to put that back in.. or maybe add another actor after the output if not?

Well, unfortunately, I did not write this code, Vade did. He was kind enough to let us port it if we asked for a donation to Bill Etra's partner, since Bill had passed away and she was on fixed income. Bottom line: I'm not sure how to change this plugin to give you what you want.
But exactly what parameter are you talking about? Here's a side-by-side of the old QC plugin and Isadora's version
Isadora has 'antialiasing' which is the same as 'Element Antialiasing'. Isadora has 'normal smooth' which is enabled if 'calc normals' is on; this is the same as 'Vertex Smoothing' in the QC plugin. So when it comes to things that are missing, as far as I know, we're not missing anything.
Maybe you can help me by being more specific?
Best Wishes,

@mark yes the Vertex smoothing is the parameter from the old version I am referencing.

Does the normal smooth reshape the spikes from z extrude for you like the v2 did? its not working for me at all and wondering if that is a bug or what is going on. this is the most important effect i use for every project i do and really need this working. It drastically (and beautifully) reshapes the sharp points that extrude from the z dimension.. so that you can have a more bubbly look rather than spiky look. I tried every permutation of changing all the other parameters on or off and then adjusted the normal smooth and got no visual results at all? that parameter just doesn't work on my end:(

As far as I know, the native plugin never supported this feature -- only the Quartz composer versions did what you are asking. I just went and checked the v2 version of the Isadora native Rutt Etra plugin. The normal smoothng has no effect, just as it is in the v3 plugin.
So, I'm really sorry, but let me repeat what I said above: it's not my code and I don't know how to fix it. Vade graciously offered to let make a native plugin using his source code with the agreement we'd seek donations for the late Bill Etra's partner who is on fixed income. (TroikaTronix made a generous donation of its own at the start.)
I'll try to write Vade to see if he's willing to help, but I can't make any promises. I am simply using the code he gave me, and in that code, this feature is not implemented. It he's not willing to offer his time then I'm afraid there is nothing I can really do except to have you use the Quartz Composer plugin, which I guess supports this feature.

OK. I can't help myself. I'm looking into it.

Well, after pulling my hair out for six hours comparing the original code from Vade and the current code of the native Rutt Etra, trying a bunch of stuff to get it to behave the same as the QC plugn, it turned out to be something stupidly simple. I put the soution in a separate post so that other users will hopefully see it.

Please verify that you've seen my solution and that it works for you when you get a chance.

@mark thankyou so much for this.. i was beating my head against the wall too and tried everything.. but yes this is a great solution.. i found some blurs that work great! especially a GLSL one that has tons of paramaters and isnt slowing me down noticably.. i really appreciate all that you do.
