[EDIT March 15, 2021: Isadora 3.0.8, which is compatible with Big Sur, has been released.]

      Hello all,

I'm having an issue with several of my students, who are trying to do a basic project with Isadora for the first time.  When they drag their video into the workspace and play it, they get the audio playing, but the video is black (in Stage Preview).  When I do the same thing with their video, it works fine on my computer.  Has anyone else had this issue?  I'm teaching remote, so it's harder to diagnose these things.

I've tried all the basics, like making sure the projector settings are accurate.  At least one of my students is on Big Sur, so that might be the issue?

      Thanks,

      Craig

        @craigalfredson

I may have had a similar experience recently when attempting to open a file first created in one version of Isadora then opened again on a another machine with OSX 11.1 and in Isadora 3.07.

I have had another look at this and think it is when using Isadora 3.07 on a machine with Big Sur. I get a black screen when attempting to view stages. I think you will find this will be fixed in the Big Sur update release.

        Best wishes

        Russell

As explained in this pinned post which was also sent as an email to all Isadora users, Isadora 3.0.7 does not work properly on Big Sur. We have not had reports of the thumbnail not working on earlier versions of macOS.

Unfortunately, it is more than just the thumbnail: Isadora 3.0.7 will not, in fact, provide an output to the stage under Big Sur.

Our current beta works fine on Big Sur. W are working as fast as we can to finish to release this next version. But for the moment, please contact us by opening a ticket and we'll try to work something out to get a beta copy to any students that need it.

          Best Wishes,
          Mark

            Hi,

I am having the same problem, also running Big Sur macOS 11.1

Not only will the display not work on my own computer when I click "show stages," it also just appears as a black box on an external display. Is there a Big Sur update coming soon? Or are there are any additional settings on either the computer or within Isadora that would help this problem?

            Thanks!

              Hi,

I know that Mark and the Isadora team are working tirelessly to get the new version release of Isadora out to us. That appears to be the answer to the black stage issue for Big Sur users. Other than waiting there is a beta testers program that you can request to join by contacting @Woland.

@mark Hi, just found this topic and understand now why I only have a black stage output on my friend's laptop. Should I make a ticket and is there already a version that works with Big Sur?
