Epoccam Feature Requests for Kinoni?
-
Thank you for the feedback on how the wireless logic works! On my phone I've been able to simply put it in airplane mode and then turn the Wi-Fi back on and am no longer interrupted by calls. No need to remove the Sim card. I haven't noticed the access CPU load is being a problem but if I started using this in more complicated projects that would definitely be something that would getting my way. Again thank you so much for this amazing app!!!

@kinoni had a rehearsal yesterday with 2 iphones, worked really well. so for a performance I´m thinking to get a wifi router to have a safer signal. Is there one you can recommend?
The flightmode trick works also, thanx! -
@feinsinn I am no network expert but here are some tips. As mentioned above you should use less crowded 5 GHz frequency band, so if you are buying a router check that it supports separate 5 GHz network. I guess in rehearsal there are not so many wireless devices interfering as during a performance with audience, so connection quality is likely to get worse. Using lower resolutions will help here as they use less bandwidth.
Good luck with the performance, I'm feeling some pressure here if the app crashes in the middle :-) -
I think @feinsinn will be the first user to use the app is a true performance setting. Will be interesting to see how it goes :)

Dear Skulpture,
I think he is not the first one! I used it for a performance November 17… I first used AirBeam Pro before and I had problem with WiFi (same with Kinoni) but principally with the way AirBeam works with orientation, trying to correct and adapt vertical or horizontal view. The way I use it now is avoiding HD (too much bandwith) and putting the WiFi router on stage (link to the computer via RJ45), with a visual contact to the iPod. There is some glitch and a little delay, but the performer is acting like using a real iPhone, so everything right. It's important to avaoid the double WiFi (iPod to router and router to computer). The show is on tour now, and there is no hotline call from the technician… I send a picture who illustrate it.Happy new year.Jacques Hoepffner -
you can also watch a teaser here (in French…)

Ah, you have me beat by a week Jacques! My project opened on Nov 26 with two iPhones. Photo attached.

@[jhoepffner](http://troikatronix.com/troikatronixforum/profile/15/jhoepffner), @[Rick](http://troikatronix.com/troikatronixforum/profile/4822/Rick)That is so cool to see how your app is actually used! Thanks a lot for posting photos and videos.Related to performance in general we have noticed that newer iPhones work better in general - there is a big difference between for example iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 in delay (faster video processing and network), quality (camera hardware) and stability (no CPU overload causing network timeouts). Also our other iOS test devices such as iPad 2 and iPod touch (4th generation) much perform worse than iPhone 5\. Upgrading iOS hardware is surely expensive but might be worth trying if delay is an issue. -
Sorry @jhoepffner only just seen this now.
Didn't know about your piece - Looks great! -
@ Kinoni
Just received my new iphone 5S. Works well in terms of speed, colors and stability, but the quality in low-light situations is much worse than the 4S and 5 models (video is much, much darker). It seems to be a software problem, because the MoviePro app allows me to use the 5S video mode perfectly in low light conditions.
Your MultiCam app works beautifully with my 2 cameras in HD quality, by the way :-)
Best, Stephan -
Thanks for pointing out the issue in low-light situations. Looks like Apple recently added "low light boost" option to latest iPhones, we will experiment with that option to see if it makes any difference. Would you like to have it always enabled or is it better to have an option to enable it manually? -
@ Kinoni
Thanks for your quick reply!
Many lighting situations in theater are "low light", but not all of them - my guess is that that a manual option would be sufficient for most of us. Maybe someone else wants to comment?
Best, Stephan -
So far I can't get Epoccam to send anything to isadora.
Epoccam viewer pro sees the feed, but I can't get it to show up in Isadora in live capture previews.
Do I need Core / Quartz / Syphon etc? Or a certain version of Isadora? Not sure where to start problem-solving.
I'm on OSX 10.9.2
-
you need the "syphon to video" or "syphon to image" actor. What version of Isadora are you using?
Best
Michel -
Wow! That was easy Michel. I just got the latest pre-release and it works without further ado.
Much fun testing to be done.

@skulpture - I think if you bottleneck the wifi signal with camera data, either at the router or at the mac antennae, it's the same thing. But a router would have better range and signal clarity.
But if you only have 802.11g on the mac, then you are better off with 802.11n router for wireless cams and hardwire to the mac (or even 802.11ac, maybe overkill).
Better / more antennaes on the router would give you better overall performance... you can set the channel / frequency to get the best signal.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/802.11n#Data_rates
But don't you need to eat up a thunderbolt port with an ethernet adapter? That seems like a waste! Sounds like you have a MDP macbook, hopefully with ethernet port...
On the other hand, I've found in times past that display port interfered with macbook wifi antennae. Also advantageous to put the antennae (router) where you want it (closer to stage and cams, away from power cables and other transmitters) and the macbook where you want it... dedicated components always have a bit of an advantage.

__I forgot to mention that app should work on OS X 10.7 Lion and later, probably not on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard._
Do you have any plans to include Snow Leopard, 10.6.8 or will it only be 10.7 forwards? thanks for the great work you are doing

Dear All,
Just wrote a little report on my recent use of Epoccam for a piece I did in England. It worked beautifully for me.

Dear All,
_I'm quite new to epoccam and syphon, but here are my feedbacks and requests
I'll be using softs on piece involving dancer in part of a whole performance, ( www.le-spang.fr )_1- Is it possible to lock screen so that dancer doesn't interact disconnect or change option in the touch screen ( 3 taps on symbol to unlock would be good don't you think?)
2- is there a way to save more battery by de-activate the phone screen and leave it black? (despite locked mode remains camera connection impossible?)/ being able to switch on the stream via osc to save power?
3- will we be able to freeze the focus of the cam or even controll it via osc ? ( I saw it was questionning for the flashlight already... )
<edit/ focus can be blocked on multicam version
4- Wifi routeur: I saw a few recommandation but does anyone has a specific model / brand to advice to get the more stability brandwidth on multicam inputs? which chanel / band to use to get more trust in crowded public performance? Thanks to all, and Bravo Kinoni to work closed to isadora, it is a great thing !

@bennid
I can answer your first question.
iPhone and iPad have a built in kiosk mode, I have used this many times and it's really helpfull.First you have to enable “Guided Access” in your iOS settings
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “General” > “Accessibility”
- Tap on “Guided Access” (Scroll down the page a little, it’s under the “Learning” section)
- Flip the switch to “ON”
**
Way number one:**
Open the app of your choice (epoccam) tripple klick the home button, know klick on start and enter a passcode. This prevents people to close the active app, but they can still change the settings.
To leave the kiosk mode tripple klick the home button again and enter the passcode.Way number two:
Open the app of your choice (epoccam) tripple klick the home button, now draw a circle or a rectrangle with your finger around the buttons you want to be locked, click continue. Know the chosen areas a locked.
To leave the kiosk mode tripple klick the home button again and enter the passcode.Best
Michel
