      Hey again,

I've finally had some time to look into this again. Things are starting to make sense with all your advice, but there is one hanging question that's in a way of everything - at least I think so.

Let's simplify stuff and focus only on the sample video with 500 Hz sound in the background (https://drive.google.com/open?...). When I drop it into Isadora and play it in a loop, what I hear is not only 500 Hz sound. At the end of each loop there is a delay/click. Is that only on my system, or is that a general behavior? If general, is there a way around it? Can it be codec-dependent, system-speed dependent, or what actually causes the 'click'?

Just to explain my reasoning - I realized that the deal-breaker now is the sound quality. In the examples above I just grabbed a guitar and played random chords to test things out in Isadora. For the show that I'm working on, the music will be recorded by musicians, and the click/delay in the loops is something I will have to deal with. It has to sound just right. I have an idea how to workaround the click using the Envelope Generator actor, but it's quite a convoluted solution that I'd like to avoid. I'd much rather find out why is there a click/delay between the loop in the first place.

      Cheers,

      Martin

Tried many things like reinstalling Isadora or setting up a new session.

I have run a test patch on MacOS Catalina 10.15.3 for three hours using exclusively MP4 movies as you have in your patch. It ran without indcident. No crashes of Isadora, no crashes of the Background Movie Player. I am awaiting your answers to my questions in the ticket system and will proceed once I hear back from you.

      Best Wishes,

Thank you, Mark.  I will try the wave/envelope generator.  My media is all photo jpeg codec.  Are there advantages to using HAP or ProRes422 over photo jpeg?

Are you using Isadora 2 or 3? Have you set the external display to the same refresh rate as the frame rate of the movie? Mac or Windows?

      @dusx

I was using Shutter Encoder for Windows and was having problems with the HapQ.mov files it was creating. After installing the DNxHD codecs from Avid earlier today, I  can now transcode DNxHR.mov to HapQ.mov using Adobe Media Encoder CS6. The files it creates run perfectly in version 2.6.1, so no more problem. Thank you for your suggestions.

      regards
      Don

Please guys, I hope someone give me solution for theses issues, because for me Isadora without properly working Movie Player is useless and I think I spend my money for nothing.

Mark Coniglio creator of Isadora here. As Juriaan said, please create a support ticket at https://support.troikatronix.c.. and include as much information as you can about the movies: resolution, whether or not you enabled Snappy compression, etc. One of our team will get back to you. Do keep in mind that this week is the Isadora Werkstatt gathering in Berlin -- all of the team are hear and it's a busy time. It may take 48 hours for them to get back to you.

      Best Wishes,
      Mark

      Perfect.
Mark had explained to me why additional buffering may help, so its great to hear that its working for you.
I will do some testing in Isadora 3 with the same setup. I expect with some of the  improvements that have been made that performance will be even better.

      SOLVED

I went on a long overdue uninstall binge and found the issue finally.

LAV Filters - ffmpeg based DirectShow Splitter and Decode

Everything is working as it should now. I had the LAV filters installed for some ffmpeg work I was doing. I don;t think I need them for anything at the moment, but will flag this for the future.

are there any OS updates available?.

There was an issue with font rendering being changed by Apple causing a draw slowdown that could be scene in the scene editor as you mention. Mark made some changes to address it and I belive an new high sierra update also helped.

@mark am I remembering this correctly?

I am new to Isadora and am having trouble with video playback. When a video is playing it will play one or twice through the video and then stop. Other actors will keep working - like wave generator.

I am on a MacBook Pro (mid 2014) with 2.8 ghz Intel Core i5 with 16 GB of memory. Currently running OS 10.13.3

      I have Isadora 2.5.1.

I have tried using video clips saved in MPEG-4 and Apple ProRes 422. Certainly wondering if another format would be better.

I am also having trouble when I "Pause Engine" it will often not allow me to "resume engine" nor quite the program and I have to "force quite" the application and restart.

Any suggests would be most welcomed!

      thanks.

      WMV

It's not the optimum codec/format for short videos or interactive playback.. it's intended for playing movies at regular speed. It will provide quality playback of long hd content if played normally. Additionally it provides small file sizes.

Hap is probably the best codec for smaller / Interactive content. However hap avi may not respond as well as quicktime for interactive work..  it's best to test for your specific usage.
