Help Please: Who's seen this user interface drawing problem in 2.5.1? ("Smearing")
-
Hey guys, sorry for the delay, as I explained to Mark through email I was having a course at the time and then got a bit separated from Isadora but hope I can give you a hand getting to the bottom of this issue:
This issue only appears on 2.5 and later, correct?
Correct, I’ve tried several versions
Does this issue appear with Isadora 2.2.2?
No, this is the most recent version that seems to work in my computer
Can I ask your system specifications? What is the model and year of your Mac?
Its a MacBook Pro Retina october 2013 13', i5 and 8gb ram. Intel iris 1536mb graphics. OSX Yosemite 10.10.5
Have you taken any other troubleshooting steps so far beyond re-installing and clearing the Isadora preferences?
Well it’s been a couple of months already but I remember thinking that maybe it got something to do with Quartz composer so I reinstalled it and I think I had some issues (or not had it at all) with Xcode so I fixed that too but nothing brought any change
Are you running any other hardware or software (in particular, anything working with your graphics card)?
No
You are not by any chance working on a "Hackintosh" – i.e, a PC that's been repurposed to run Mac OS?
Nope
You are not running Mac OS in some kind of "virtualization" software like VM Fusion or Parallels?
Nope
Are any of your monitors connected to the computer via a USB interface? Something like the device shown on this page: https://www.newegg.com/Product...
Nope
Have you installed any unusual third-party software that manages the displays?
Not that I can think of really
Any other question just shoot, the issue is still happening, I'm close to a reboot and update of the OS now though
Thanks a lot!
Gaz

Ah, I missed the ones in the beggining
1) If you chose "About Isadora..." from the Apple menu, does the splash screen draw properly?
Mmm kinda, except down right corner, take a look
2) If you go to the View menu and choose "Zoom Out" and then "Default Zoom" does that fix the problem?Nope
Thanks!

Dear All,
We have determined that some other piece of software is interfering with Isadora. @Michel from our team had a colleague who showed this error, and when Michel booted his machine from a fresh install of Mac OS Sierra, it solved the problem.
We don't know which piece of software caused the problem. But @gaz, if you could open a ticket on our help desk system and do the following it might help us figure out the problem:
- Open the System Information program in /Applications/Utilties
- Save a System Report
- Compress the resulting file (.zip)
- Send it to us
NOTE: don't post your system information here. It has a lot of information about your computer and should be kept private.
We can compare it to the system report of the Michel's colleague and see if there is any software in common.
Best Wishes,
Mark -
Sure will do

I have assigned the support ticket with the information from gaz to you.

Dear All,
OK, thanks to comments from @eight, I believe we have a solution to this "screen smearing" problem. His clues led me to the solution: you need to ensure that the Verdana and Arial fonts are installed on the system.
I don't think it's legal for us to supply those fonts here (Apple would probably frown on that) you should be able acquire those fonts. Look first in /Library/Fonts Disabled/ – the fonts may be there. Otherwise, look for an online source for those fonts and install them.
This solved the problem for him. I hope it will solve it for everyone else too.
Best Wishes,

Good that it seems to be solved. I contacted the users that had these issues.
Another thing (its actually a forum thing @Michel ) : I realized that I don´t get am email notification if my username is tagged. While testing the forum, we tried it and it worked, so not sure what happened, or if I changed a setting. Attaching a screenshot of my settings: should I change something

It also worked on my colleagues computer. To say, you don't have to download the fonts. Just open the app "font book" from apple, go to the menu "file --> Restore Standard Fonts...", and that does the trick. Thats all what Peter had to do and to be safe restart the computer.
@crystalhorizon I think the reason for not being notified now, compared to the testing phase is that we had to role back a version of nodebb. I also don't get notifications.
Best Michel

Glad it's figured out. What a weird one.

Yes also happy here. That looked scary and strange.
