Syphon Virtual Webcam - Questions & Assistance
-
[EDIT: a separate thread devoted to discussing routing audio has been started to answer this question. Please go there for more info.]
Thanks for this amazing app. It worked perfect for me, never crashed. I was able to get 2 Skype feeds, processing then in Isadora, and sending them to Zoom very easily
My question: can you point me in the right direction on audio routing? What is the best way to send/manage the audio (Zoome audio out, multi-channel audio device, etc..) from Skype and pre-recorded audio to Zoom?
Thanks a lot!!

Hi,
I'm having trouble getting applications on my computer to find the OBS Virtual Cam. Everything is up to date, and I have followed the tutorial, and am having no issues connecting the Virtual Cam to Isadora, but when I open Zoom, it does not display the OBS Virtual Cam. I've updated ZOOM to the latest version -- but its not just about Zoom, as it's also not coming up on Quicktime, or as a video option in chrome.
There are two things I wonder about.
1. When I downloaded the Virtual Cam, it did not automatically ask me to download the OBS Virtual Cam driver -- I had to do it manually through clicking help and then download OBS VC plugin.
2. I'm running Catalina, but after reading around, it seems it should work fine. Some help would really be appreciated.
Thanks
Michael

What version of Zoom are you running? I verified it everything working with Zoom 5.1.2 on Catalina. Do you have that version?

@mark Yes that is the version of Zoom I'm using. The issue is not just with Zoom though. Also with Quicktime. It's not showing up on any application.

Please follow this procedure
1) Quit all applications.
2) In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder... . In the dialog, enter this:
/Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
and click "Go"
3) Delete obs-mac-virtualcam.plugin and empty the trash
4) Delete Zoom from the Applications folder
5) Ensure that in the Apple System Preferences, Security & Privacy > General > Allow Apps Downloaded From says "App Store and Identified Developers"
6) Install Zoom (Version 5.1.2 or later)
7) Run Syphon Virtual Webcam -- it should ask you to install the OBS Virtual Camera driver. Follow the instructions to open the OBS Virtual Webcam Installer
8) Install OBS Virtual Webcam using the downloaded installer that
9) Reboot your computer
10) Open QuickTime and choose New Movie Recording
11) Using the little triangle near the record button, attempt to select OBS Virtual Camera. If you can do this, you should see the OBS Virtual Camera test pattern.
12) If that succeeds, try to select OBS Virtual Camera in ZoomI just followed this procedure on Catalina 10.15.5 (the latest) and it all works as expected. Try it and let me know.

It worked! Thank you!

@mark Thanks Mark- that worked! Although at step #7 it never asked me to install OBS Virtual Camera, but I was able to find the link to that download within the 'read' file included with plug in download. Thanks so much for taking the time to help us thru this setup. Very excited to put to use! Be well.

Wow, really? That sort of seems impossible if the plugin file was in fact deleted from /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
Can you do me one favor? Run Syphon Virtual Webcam and choose Help > Install OBS Virtual Camera Plugin from the menu. Does it take you through the download and install procedure?

@mark I Ran Syphon Virtual Webcam >Help>Install OBS Virtual Camera Plugin and it DID then take me thru the download procedure.

Can you help us understand this problem by telling us what version of MacOS you are using?
To uninstall the OBS Virtual Camera plugin do the following:
1) In the Finder choose Go to Folder... from the Go menu.
2) In the dialog that appears enter the following text and hit the "Go" button/Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
3) Delete obs-mac-virtualcam.plugin
4) Restart your computer.Let me know if that works and sorry for the trouble.

Hi,
Great tool, I have been using it a lot, even in calls with the family just to have some fun with the webcam.
When using zoom or Skype I don't have any problems.
But when I am using it in a website in Google chrome (google meet, or website I use to teach). After a while the virtual webcam starts freezing,
After a while the hole screen freezes, sound still comes trough and they can still hear me but it looks like the graphics card is completely blocked. Then the fans kik in like my Macbook thinks it can fly. And then after a while my machine crashes completely. It happens only after a while, sometimes 15 minutes, sometimes more than an hour so its hard to pinpoint the exact problem.
I don't know if other people have the same experience?
MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) / OS: 10.15.7 / processor: 2,3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 / Memory: 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 / Graphicscard: AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB - Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB
Kind regards
Groeten

Do you only see this with chrome or also other browsers? If only in chrome this post could explain a reason:

I only use chrome for video group calls because the website of my school works best on chrome.
I never use it for other things so It is possible this is the problem. I'll do the next online rehearsal in an other browser and let you know if that was the problem. -

I've had this exact experience on my 2013 Mac Pro trashcan on multiple versions of macOS. I can't seem to nail it down though.'
If I try to force quit Syphon Virtual Webcam when it's being flickery or frozen, then it freezes my whole screen but audio still comes through. Eventually it unfreezes with no other ill effects, but I can't reproduce it reliably.

I'm still testing and I'm not completely sure its a chrome thing.
If I'm using chrome without the virtual webcam I don't have any problems.(even now after half a day of video calls on chrome)
and last time I also had a problem via zoom (but I forgot to close down chrome so maybe its a combination thing) -
I'm having issues getting the OBS Virtual Cam to display the feed coming from Syphon Virtual Cam. As you can see in the screenshot below, I've got the media displaying in Syphon Virtual Webcam. However, when I select "OBS Virtual Webcam" as a source in another application (in this case zoom), I get a blue OBS graphic. Has anyone else had this issue?

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I was able to reproduce this with the latest version of OBS.
You can read more (and find a workaround) in this forum post about this issue, which I've just posted because of your issue.
