Forum Update - Everyone Please Read [UPDATED Apr 13, 2018]
-
Dear Community,
Over the last week, the forum was experiencing strange problems – unexpected and repeated crashes. To address this, we've upgraded the forum software (NodeBB) to the latest version.
Hopefully problems that some of you experienced – like not being able to upload pictures on the initial post – are solved by this update. If you experienced problems like that (I believe @Lauri is one person who did) then please see if things work better now.
We made this upgrade without trying out the new version on our test server because the situation was urgent. Please let us know right away if you experience any trouble.
Best Wishes,
Mark Coniglio + The TroikaTronix Team -
@mark Thanks for the forum upgrade. Yes, I did have problems before. Now, trying it again, I was able to attach an image file (jpg) to an initial post, which did not work before. However, while trying to attach a zip file to a new post, it does not appear – adding a zip file while replying to a previous post worked before, so I suppose that works still too.
Best wishes,
Lauri

I am having trouble using the forum menu (unread topic, latest topic etc.. ) on my Android now. Previously this was no problem.
-
The menu opens when tapped but only closes again when tapping any menu option. Doesn't load the associated page.
-
I have the same issue on my android phone.

Ryan, would you say this describes the issue?

If so, I'll have our programmer apply the fix they suggest there.

Yes I think it might be. I also checked for a chrome update but I seem to have the latest already.
-
I'm on my laptop, (Macbook Pro in my signature), and sometimes replying to topics makes the edit window automatically over-fill the screen. Everything above the basic a paragraph, formatting, image, file, upload, etc. is off the screen and so I can't grab the little black circle with the double-ended arrow in order to drag it down and see the post while I'm replying. Furthermore, it won't allow me to type when it does this. Any ideas?
Best wishes,

Update:
- I came back to edit my comment and add that I had been on Chrome, found I couldn't edit my comment, so I tried to make a reply, but got the bug again.
- I tried and had the same issue on Safari, Mozilla, and Opera on my Macbook, but arguably worse because I couldn't even see the formatting buttons on most of those.
- Issue did not happen with Chrome on my iPhone 6+.
The good news is I figured out what makes it happen and how to get around it.
The Issue: As that as you scroll down through a thread the default "height" that the top of reply window will start at seems to change, thus when I reply to my comment all the way down here, the top of the reply window is WAYYY off the top of the screen. Because that little black circle is the only way to resize the window, (i.e. it's the only way to move the top of the window up and down), and that little black circle is wayyy off the screen, you're stuck with your entire browser window basically just being white nothing (maybe with the formatting buttons at the top).
What fixes it: Replying to the original post instead of a comment (gives you a normal reply window instead of a white wall).
- I think this is further evidence that the cause of the problem is that the reply window's default position seems to be tied to how far down or up in the thread you scroll.
Steps to recreate:
- If you go to the original post and press "reply" you get a normal forum reply window where you can write, have access to the white double-arrow inside the black circle at the top left (which allows you to move the "top" of the reply window up and down).
- Press "Discard"
- Press "reply" as if you were replying to the first commenter.
- For me, then "top" of the reply window appeared higher on the screen by default than if I were replying to the original post.
- Press "Discard"
- Press "reply" as if you were replying to the second commenter.
- For me, then "top" of the reply window appeared higher on the screen by default than if I were replying to the first commenter.
- Press "Discard"
- If I repeat this process, moving down to the next commenter, then the next, etc., I very soon end up with a "white wall".
- I can't type, I can't reach the top in order to resize it, and the "Discard" and "Submit" buttons are even off the screen so I can't junk the "white wall" reply.
- I can, however, press the red circle at the bottom right to hide the white wall (as it is just a reply window).
- If I then reply to the original post again, I get a normal reply window (though I have no way to close the white wall reply and the red circle stays there until I refresh the page).
@Michel any ideas?

Also not sure if I've just forgotten, (after two months away from the forum working another job), how to edit my replies after I've already made them, or if I'm actually unable to edit my comments anymore.

I can confirm this problem. I don't think we can solve this our self. Maybe Tobias could solve this. If this happens you have to click the red button at the bottom right, then scroll all up to the first post and then click the red button again and the edit window appears normal.
You should be able to edit your posts. If you click on the 3 dots on the right side underneath your post, there should be the word edit.

I am having some difficulty using the forum interface on iOS (iPhone 8) latest release. There does not appear to be any functional options to navigate the forum. I can’t access chat messages or notifications, I am also unable to go between posts. It appears the only thing I can do is go back to the Isadora entry page and re-select the forum to load it again. It is pretty much dysfunctional for me.

Sad to say those three dots were the first thing I tried. It only gives me the option to bookmark for some reason

Also, that was me trying to edit my own comment. When I click on the dots for other people's I get the normal "Favourite" and "Flag for moderation" options.

First, fantastic find regarding the workaround for the editor problem. Thank you.
Second, to everyone, I'm sorry for the trouble. As I said originally, we had no choice but to move to the latest build b/c of all the crashes.
Regarding the reply problem, which I can see easily on Safari, Firefox and Chrome
I have submitted a bug report on NodeBB's github as you can see here:
https://github.com/NodeBB/Node...
I've also posted about it in their forum in the bug reports section:
https://community.nodebb.org/t...
But since I don't have a smartphone, if you feel the toolbar issue people have mentioned is different than the one I submitted, can I ask you set up a github account (if you don't already have one) and submit a detailed description of the bug there and also to post it on NodeBB's forum.
Thanks for handling this Lucas. ;-)
Best Wishes,
Mark -
Note that on long original posts like the one linked below, my workaround is useless because one needs to scroll down to far in order to reply to the original post.
Also, sometimes I'm getting the reply window in the right place, but all the formatting buttons are mysteriously absent.
Discarding the current reply window and trying again usually brings the formatting buttons back.

Edit:
Workaround for Replying to Threads with Long Original Posts.
1) Zoom browser view out (until the "reply" button and the top of the first post are both visible).
2) Reply to the original post.

Well, this workaround works for me, regardless of the number of posts:
1) Hit reply button... editor fills the frame, etc.
2) Hit the little red button with the "speech balloon" and three dots to hide the reply
3) Scroll to the first post
4) Hit the red button again
5) Now you can successfully enter text, apply formatting, etc.Best Wishes,

Worth noting that the the fix above doesn't work for editing one's own replies.Best wishes,
Woland
Edit: I was wrong. It does work for editting one's own replies.

Edit: Mark's workaround is better.
