I made this some time ago for similar reason, I dont have gear with me to test- it is good for 10.6+ I have a more advanced version but I need to clean the code first. This one will send a syphon stream of the selected capture device.

The issue with that device and every other smart watch type device I've seen is that they use Bluetooth not WiFi as their communication medium which generally doesn't have the range or reliability we look for in live performance.

Yes I am going for the thunderbolt one. I have the MBPretina now (and loving it) so have enough ports.

Bit annoyed that it doesn't come with a thunderbolt cable... thats anther £30 I need to spend - on a cable! lol

Please look again at my first response. There is no way to directly link the output of the Midi Player into the Note On Watcher. But I'll try to be super explicit:

For Mac OS X, do the following:

Go to Communications menu and choose Midi Setup... In the top left pop-up menu (Port 1, Input, choose Isadora Virtual Out In the top right pop-up menu (Port 1, Output) choose Isadora Virtual Out Now if you put a Midi Player and a Note On watcher into the scene, and then start playing the MIDI file, the notes will be sent through the MIDI system of Mac OS X. It will go out of Isadora, and then right back in. In this way, the Note On watcher will see each note coming from the MIDI Player actor.

So, a little roundabout. But it will work.

As far as an "auto-mapping" feature, it sounds like you need to take a look at the MIDI tutorials

I have found that the compatibility list on the Matrox website is not very accurate.  I don't have experience with the new retina display MBP's, but with the older unibody versions, the analog dualhead and the digital triplehead work fine out of the thunderbolt port with the Apple MiniDP to VGA adapters.  My preference is to use the triplehead digital edition with a miniDP to DVI adapter and passive DVI-VGA adapters on the out.  That way all of the digital to analog conversion is done by the Matrox.  The newer devices that Matrox says are Mac compatible are actually less compatible if you are looking to down convert to an analog signal (VGA or composite), since they do not support analog out (the triplehead digital edition is the ONLY model that has DVI-I with analog signal out).  This means that you have to rely on third party Digital to analog converters which are expensive, not too common and/or not too robust.

I'm a little confused by a your description. Is this it: 1) Rear projection screen (with an actor in front?) is being fed 1024x768 material. This projector is set to something other than 50 Hz. 2) Camera running a 50Hz is point at RP screen. Output of camera is fed into Blackmagic, then into Isadora (?) which then displays image on Barco (1920x902) running at 50 Hz. (?) 3) You see scan lines in the image seen on the Barco output. Please confirm if this is right. If not, please post a more detailed description of the chain of devices. Best, Mark

@Mehdi are you using a vanilla version of opencv? When you say you get better performance is the image quality better with opencv? Does it use less resources? Or give you higher more stable frame rates with more or the same resources? The default built in windows library for capturing with open CV is the ancient VFW video for windows. If you don't use that (set with a flag) you are using directshow in opencv anyway.

This may be interesting to you if you have some spare ram. You can use this app

I can safely make a 6 - 8 gig ram drive on my rMBP without blocking the system resources (depends what you are doing with the rest of the ram). It might get you out of a tight spot for needing a fast drive.

Hi Fred, I don't have screens in the racks. My use is that the rack is on stage so I can connect cameras and beamers ( that I use most of the time on stage) without running long cables. Then I have 3xcat5 + 3 SDI cables running in the audience for KVM + monitors + midi controller. One of the goals of this setup is to have a control station as light as possible and fanless that I can take a nice seat in the audience without disturbing... Mehdi

This is 2400 lumens, this is ok for a small room (loungeroom) with a short throw 3.5- 4.5 and a small screen.

I personally would never trust consumer grade wireless hdmi in a show, especially if it is not even a dedicated unit but included as a bonus- run the cables but even that is not guaranteed.

If you want to send live camera direct to a projector use a video mixer, you can use a matrix as well so you can still have the input in Isadora, otherwise you will get a big delay. Most video mixers can do a PIP composite also.

You can get delay at every point of your system, many non pro cameras have a delay before they even output the image, your capture card will have a delay and your compositing will add a delay and your projector will also add a delay. Without a ton of pro gear you will get a delay, big pro projectors also have a big delay. If you are in a big space you can delay the audio to match (if it is not too much- ie just compensating for a projector, not a whole chain of delays). I have dealt with this problem many times and a video mixer is the way (There are things you can do to minimise the delay if you have to go through a computer, but Isadora does not give you so many options, mostly getting the fastest possible hardware and then programming your video effects in something super fast like pure opengl or openCL). Well it depends on the range you need and how many other wifi networks you can see when you are in the theatre. You get a lot more headroom with 5.ghz as far as throughput goes, but less range, of you don't need the range then you can use 5ghz, but this wont help much if you camera is not 5ghz capable. What model camera are you using? Is it a 2.4ghz wifi camera (IP) or 2.4ghz rf? If you get the right person to ask the audience to turn them off then it works (I found waiting for everyone to sit down and then make an announcement including something like "we are using sensitive equipment and leaving your phones on will ruin the show"

No problem, Mark!  I've actually found a good answer, with hints from @vanakaru. I've been meaning to post here, but am still wrapped up in the creation of the show.

Basically, I bought a Matrox MXO2 Mini with ExpressCard to plug into my laptop and it works very well! If I want to also use it on my desktop production machine, all I have to do is buy the Matrox PCI card and then I have a solution that ports between any machine.  It also works PC to MAC, so it's very flexible!

Matrox support is fantastic, by the way.  Quite expert and they don't keep you on hold forever.
