I personally updated one of the two trashcans from El Capitan to Mojave. There are instructions in this article in the section "How to install an update to macOS in High Sierra or earlier" on how to update that generation of macOS to a newer version.

Also, though El Capitan is not officially within our list of supported operating systems, Isadora 3.1.1 might work fine on it. My laptop was running Isadora 3.0.8f12 on El Capitan without any problems. Testing is key though. Ask them to boot up the machine and hop on a zoom call with you so that you can remote access the machine through zoom in order to install Isadora 3.1.1 and make sure everything works alright.

Hey Mark... So looking at the latest NUC after all. The latest NUC spec looks great - extreme 11 beast canyon (you basically can't get more macho in a name, I thought they could maybe have added - grenade / obliterate / helmet but hey ho!). 

 I see you are in Salford some of the time, I am in Stretford. Maybe grab a chat sometime. I may also be working at Lowry some on next project.

depends how many ports the macbook has. if its a new macbook pro you have 4 usbc/thunderbolt ports. what I used to use was an old Ultrastudio thunderbolt plus an old Intensity Shuttle USB3 on a 2015 mbp. Never had issues (well... there are always issues, but not in terms of having multiple blackmagic devices). the blackmagic utility is very useful in letting you configure each device separately.

@fubbi I like the idea of the Mac Studio - probably the lower end model.  I have the 4 ideas listed below and have been able to test #1 and #4 though only to ensure the desktop was extended across 3 separate (external) displays.  Costs are roughly then same out of pocket dollars but, when the warranty is factored in, everything seems a wash and the Studio is my most promising option.

A used, non-Apple silica computer with Thunderbolt 3 ports (2020 MacBook Pro, 2020 MacBook Air) and an external graphics card that has “3+ DisplayPort/miniDisplayPort/HDMI/USB-C” outputs for $2,000 (includes 90day warranty).  Probably supported for 4yrs max.  Tested with a 2018 Mac mini, Sonnet eGPU and miniDisplayPort-to-HDMI cables.A new Apple Studio with four (4) Thunderbolt 4 ports and one (1) HDMI port for $2,600 (includes 4yr warranty).  Will be supported for several years. A new Apple Mac mini, the last of the Intel-powered minis, for $2,500 (includes 4yr warranty).  Probably supported for 4yrs max. A used, iMac Pro (2017) for $2,300.  Probably supported for 3-4 years max.  Tested with iMac Pro and Thunderbolt 3-to-HDMI and Thunderbolt-to-DisplayPort cables.

I'm looking at buying a MacBook Pro with M1 Pro chip. Just wanted to see if anybody had feedback on using the chip.

Is it as good as it's hyped up to be? particularly, with Isadora?

Opinions on 16 vs 32gb model? how limiting might it be to stick with 16gb?

Anyways - would love to hear your experience running Izzy & all things video with it!

The above image contains, all I need to turn on and off my Panasonic projector.

The top Send PJLink actor will power on the projector (this will only work when the bottom Send PJLink actor returns Zero, as seen)The middle PJLink actor will turn off the projectorAnd the bottom PJLink actor is there to check the power status. It returns 2 while the projector is in cool down mode, and can not be turned back on.

My laptop and my projector are both plugged into my router.

My Laptop is connected using DHCP (so it get a dynamic IP address).
The projector has had DHCP turned off and I have defined a static IP address of 192.168.000.208
In the projectors network setup I also needed to add my gateway and mask, 192.168.0.1 and 255.255.255.0 respectively.
I also am not using a password on the projector at this time.

Once you setup the IP on the projector, I suggest using Terminal and ping the projector to ensure it is seen on the network.
To ping, open Terminal, and type "ping -c 5 " followed by your IP address...
eg: ping -c 5 192.168.000.208

I hope this helps you move forward. Let me know if you hit any roadblocks.

Wow. Thanks @DusX and @Woland! These are the answers I needed (and had assumed...but always trying to save money!) But this really went way, way above and beyond, as you all so often do in this forum. As a committed *perpetual* Isadora Advanced Beginner, I'm just so appreciative. @woland ooooh, this is interesting.

obviously there will be some lag involved when you send a cameras image through HDMI - into a computer - process it in isadora - then send it out to another projector.

but I hadn't considered that (assuming that you're are using a reasonably modern machine and not overtaxing it with multiple effects) that there are limits to how much this lag can be minimised.

Have I got this all wrong, could a simple GPU upgrade do wonders for my live video pipeline?

We actually do already officially support Windows 11. From the Isadora 3 System Requirements article: "Isadora 3 is supported on macOS 10.14 (Mojave) through macOS 12 (Monterey) with a 64-bit Intel or Apple silicon (ARM/M1) processor, and on a 64-bit version of Windows 10 through 11 with an Intel or AMD processor." and "Window 11 is supported with Isadora 3.1.1 and later."

Yes, by "unsupported" we don't mean you can't try it to see how it works, we just mean that we do not have the resources to extensively test Isadora with eGPUs so we can't promise that Isadora will work when using an eGPU. It's "unsupported" because we can't provide technical support for eGPU-related problems.

Yes, if memory serves, over half our userbase is working on macOS, but it's also very common for experienced users of the software to work with Isadora on both macOS and Windows.

got a couple of questions curious if any of you guys have thoughts/experience to share?

1- has any of you worked/experimented with any kind of haptic feedback devices being controlled via Isadora? gloves, vests, whatever.. 

2- If so, any experience with wireless haptic sensors?

3- Finally, what about multiple wireless devices being sent (same) signal from izzy?
